What’s this Ayurveda I’m talking about and why can it have an amazing impact on YOUR wellbeing?

Updated: Jun 29, 2021

Ayurveda is a word you would have seen bouncing around quite a few times if you’ve been following me on the socials or my website and it is widely gaining more recognition in the Western World.

Being deeply immersed in it and Ayurveda being a huge part of my day to day live, it sometimes is easy to assume, that everyone’s else knows what I’m talking about too. Do you ever find yourself naively assuming that the person you are speaking to is utterly familiar with the thoughts in your head? Thank you! So let’s get back to the rock bottom of what is Ayurveda and why do I keep referring to it?

The Science of Life

Ayurveda is an ancient natural medicine system that originated (at least) 5000 years ago in India and literally means “The science/knowledge of life”. It is an experiential science based on the circadian rhythms of nature and the five great elements (water, fire, earth, air and ether) of which all living is comprised and is working on preventing diseases in the first place as well as treading the root cause once an imbalance has occurred.

Ayurveda is simple yet profound and hugely emphasizes the principle of bio-individuality, basically meaning that one person my function and thrive in very different ways and with very different remedies to another, which is based on their genetic blueprint or body-mind type, which is called Dosha.

The 3 Doshas

The three doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, are made up of some of the five elements. While we all have all of the five elements within us, some may be more dominant than others, determining our doshic makeup our body-mind constitution.

Vata Air and Ether (space) – the principle of movement

PittaFire and Water (predominantly fire) – the principle of transformation and metabolism

Kapha – Earth and Water – the principle of structure

All these elemental principles have different qualities which are shining through more or less strongly in not only our physical body and its functions but also our character personality and mind/emotions.

Why Ayurveda

Ayurveda intuitively came to me when I started my journey in India a few years ago, very soon after my very first yoga teacher training, and from our very first meeting it just felt so familiar and natural to me. Because it is! Ayurveda is nothing new – in fact its all knowledge we already always KNEW – that may be buried deep inside due to our modern lifestyles conditioning us and, to be honest, quite often causing us to be disconnected from ourselves and out of touch with our bodies, self and environment. Ayurveda is all about the natural cycles and rhythms of life, which is why it has given me so much – it has helped me to deeply connect to and get to know myself again, learning myself and my body and what lifestyle habits and foods are naturally supporting me living as my highest self on a daily basis and which ones may aggravate and create imbalance in my body and mind, lowering my overall frequency.

This ancient healing system has helped me to heal major imbalances in my body that had a root cause in mental and emotional trauma and abuse, such as post traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders like orthorexia and bulimia, negative self-image and insecurity, chronic digestive issues, migraines and low energy which also lead to mental health lows which resulted in depression, self-harming and anxiety. Getting back in tune with my body and its needs according to the rhythms of the nature around me has allowed me to achieve holistic balance – of body, mind and emotions and not only heal myself from past traumas and toxicity but become my most empowered self because of it.

This is why I am ever so passionate about spreading the message of Ayurveda far and wide because I know, as I have experienced myself, that Ayurveda and it’s simple wisdom can do so much good for so many people, no matter if eastern, western, young or old. To live our best lives and truly thrive is our birth right and we can claim it by taking action towards an amplified wellbeing. Naturally.
